"Out of darkness, must come light." This is
something that has come to epitomize Sempai Rigo Asencio's
transition from a life of depression and misery to a life of
happiness and bliss. Sempai Rigo's Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu journey
begins right out of high school. His lifestyle of inactivity,
terrible eating habits and a family history of illnesses, led to high blood pressure
and a weight of 280 pounds. This is the turning point
that made him look for a change, but what it would be was still
unknown to him.
During spring cleaning one year, Sempai Rigo found an
unmarked DVD. He
didn't know at the time, but that DVD would be the answer to all of
his problems that he was having in his life and more. The DVD was a
highlight reel of the legendary Royce Gracie and his victories in
the UFC. Royce Gracie fascinated Sempai Rigo with his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
and how he was able to not only defend himself in No-Rules Fighting,
but to win and dominate every fight regardless of weight, strength,
or size. Sempai Rigo started to do his research and bought every single UFC
DVD on the market. He learned more about the sport, the fighters,
and the history. After educating himself, it was now time to take on
the huge task of finding an Academy that he could call his new home
and begin his new life as a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu martial artist.
Sempai
Rigo's began searching for an Academy that would lead him to his new
found goals. Until one day, he came upon an
intriguing website called www.kneeonbelly.com. The rest, as you can
see, is history.
Sempai
Rigo began training under New Jersey's Offical Rigan Machado
Representative Sensei Johnny Guerrero and became part of the Rigan
Machado, Marcos Santos, and Team Guerrero family. It was through the
motivation and active role of Sensei Guerrero in his training that
Sempai Rigo was able to lose 100 pounds in a year, and
was also able to achieve the rank of Blue Belt in less than a year. This
was a big moment in Sempai Rigo's life because he had never been active in
his life, yet was able to lose 100 pounds in a year and achieve the
rank of Blue Belt before he turned 19. Sempai Rigo had come to the realization that he
would dedicate his life to not only studying and teaching the
martial art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, but helping other people like
himself realize their true potential in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and life
itself.
At the tender age of 20, Sempai Rigo Asencio has achieved the rank
of Purple Belt and has trained with the best Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu fighters & instructors in the world today. Below are some
