Professor
Marcos Santos received his black belt from Rigan Machado, nephew of
the founder and late master of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Carlos Gracie
Sr. Professor Marcos began training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at the
age of 6, and has had the unusual pleasure of training with many of
Brazil's top instructors. The jiu jitsu that Santos learned in
Brazil has been further refined by the famous Machado brothers, and
he now is the official East coast representative for the Rigan Machado.
Santos practices the Machado philosophy of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu,
which is to incorporate the martial art form as a way of living, not
merely a method of combat. He believes that a healthy lifestyle,
which includes proper nutrition and positive mental attitude, must
be the base from which all self-defense begins.
With over 25 years training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Santos has a
level of experience that few others can claim, and brings a wealth
of fighting knowledge to his role as head instructor of the NYC
Machado Jiu Jitsu Academy. Santos has been nominated as Instructor
of the Year and inducted into the World Karate Hall of Fame. In
addition, Santos was recognized as a master in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
by Action Martial Arts Magazine and was also invited to perform a
martial arts exhibition at Madison Square Garden for Chuck Norris in
2000.
